o Reinforcing our abilities to understand our situation, to act by ourselves and with others in order to improve on a long-term basis our lives conditions.
o Proposing to the decision makers and to the partners the guidelines, priorities, programmes and actions that entitle West African agriculture to take up the challenges of a sustainable food security and of a decent future for family farms.
That is the reason why we have started the following programmes:
Funds for Capacity building projects of the Peasant Organizations and Producers.
The development of the Rural Identity Card as an information and help tool for the decisions of family farmers and their organizations.
The Peasant Organisations and Producers reflection to make proposals which improve the national policies for Rural Development and the Common Agricultural Policy inside the under-region.
Faced with the alarming situation that has struck the African populations, the networks of farmer and agricultural producer organizations of Southern Africa (SACAU), Central Africa (PROPAC), Eastern Africa (EAFF) and West Africa (ROPPA) met in Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia, from 21st to 23rd of May 2008, to share information and exchange ideas on the current state of African agriculture and possible solutions .Read more...

At the initiative of ROPPA (Network of Farmers’ and Agricultural Producers’ Organisations of West Africa) a dialogue concerning the food sovereignty of the sub-region took place in Niamey from 7 to 10 November among farmer organization leaders, members of parliament, officials of ministries agriculture and trade, and researchers from 13 countries of West Africa, together with the authorities of ECOWAS, UEMOA and CILSS, technical and financial partners, farmers’ organizations from the North and NGOs.
Conscious of their roles and responsibilities with regard to the populations they represent, support, and accompany in their daily eff orts, the Forum’s participants adopted the present document which they entitled “ THE NIAMEY CALL FOR FOOD SOVEREIGNTY OF WEST AFRICA “.
